The Inn is #22 in the United States on the list!

With a perfect Location score, this hilltop White Mountains inn is "great for getting away from it all." Cozy rooms have fireplaces, double whirlpool tubs, and feather beds. The dining room is "known in the area" for its New England cuisine with Mediterranean accents, extensive beer selection, and 3,000-bottle wine cellar.

One of "America's Most Wine Friendly Restaurants"
New Hampshire's White Mountains frame this lovely country inn, and the views of Mount Washington will make you think you've stepped into a postcard. One look at the wine list, though, and you'll swear you're in the big city. The 1,600-selection cellar covers all regions. Diners choose from 25 wines by the glass or sample from seven flights (2-ounce glasses of three bottlings) that have been specially paired with various items on chef Jonathan Cox's globally accented contemporary menu. Besides wine tastings, dinners and seminars, innkeepers Jim and Ibby Cooper host a wine club. Members receive inscribed glasses, discounts and invitations to quarterly tastings. A fire in 2002 devastated the inn's main (circa 1895) building; it reopened in 2004 after a reconstruction that was faithful to the original Stanford White design but added many updates, including a climate-controlled cellar. Many older vintages had to be sanitized per state law, but are just fine, apart from some label damage.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine
Award of Ultimate Distinction
The Inn at Thorn Hill has been awarded the "Award of Ultimate Distinction" as having one of the great wine list in the nation. There were only 31 restaurant that received this award and is one of three so honored in New England. The Inn also has a year round wine program including bi-monthly wine classes, twice a year wine weekends, 27 wine by the glass and a wine club. The list features depth in California Cabernet and Chardonnay wines, Bordeaux and and a great selections of Pinot Noirs and Syrahs. So joins us for a glass and relax on our wraparound porch once the snow dissipates.

CONDE NAST TRAVELER 2002 ANNUAL READERS' CHOICE AWARDS

NOVEMBER 2002 - The Inn at Thorn Hill & Spa has been ranked the #45 "Best Hotel in North America" by readers of Condé Nast Traveler. The distinguished honor for The Inn at Thorn Hill & Spa, which also perennially earns the Wine Spectator "Best Award of Excellence" and AAA Four-Diamond ratings, was reported in the November issue of the magazine which is read by the most traveled people in the world.

Condé Nast Traveler's Annual Readers' Choice Awards are recognized as the predominant international benchmark of travel service. For the 15th year, the magazine tabulated surveys from over 28,000 readers - making it the largest private poll of consumer attitudes in the United States. Hotels were judged on the quality of their service, guestrooms, food/restaurants, design/layout and location.

"Throughout the years, we have been privileged to receive many awards, but none is more important than the Reader's Choice which truly represents the ultimate in customer satisfaction," said James Cooper, Innkeeper.

"This vote of confidence by consumers tells us that we have achieved a high level of customer satisfaction, combining world-class service and an incomparable vacation experience," explained Ibby Cooper, Innkeeper.

After a recent fire in October the inn will be closed for a period of renovation and expansion. "We are inspired by our guests' commitment to our establishment and are certain that once we re-open discriminating and experienced travelers will continue to rank The Inn at Thorn Hill & Spa at the top of their list which includes some of the finest inn experiences to be found anywhere," the Coopers concluded.
